Faith & Virtue

First some definitions.

American Heritage Dictionary on Faith (relevant def):
  1. Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.
  2. The body of dogma of a religion: the Muslim faith.

American Heritage Dictionary on Virtue (relevant def):

  1. Moral excellence and righteousness; goodness.

No matter what god a theist believes in, no matter what religion a theist belongs to, you will always come to a point when the theist will say "But I have faith in that it's true". If you know what questions to ask, you will always reach this point. Always.

Why? Because the notion of a god or gods, is illogical and lacking in evidence.

And they say this with great pride. For them it's a virtue to have faith. The greater the faith, the greater the virtue. It's good. It's righteous. It's moral.

Sorry. It's simply ridiculous.

How can it be virtuous to have faith? How can it be good, righteous, and moral, to accept a reality that's illogical and without evidence?

My answer is No! What you get, when people takes things on faith and abandon reason, is intellectual dishonesty. On the extreme you get terrorists and science haters, on the moderate, you get deists.

What do you think? Please let me know. Please leave a comment.

The beauty of Atheism

Think deeply. Think what's in your heart. Is there a god? Many will say Yes.

Really?

Think again.

Really?

Again.

Don't you hear yourself?

Do you (honestly) hear an answer? Or is it just that you WANT to hear an answer?

Atheism is beautiful! It makes you free. Free of fear, free of guilt, free to be who you are.

Many people think that atheism gives you nothing. It is without value.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

I was afraid of this, leaving an xtin cult. I found beauty beyond anything I could have imagined in the xtian world. The natural world was amazing! The beauty, where did it come from, you ask.

It came from the same place a bee chooses one flower over another.

Oh, NO! That can't be it!

Why not?

The reason we look for reason... god... is the same reason an insect looks for a color...

Maybe our "drive" for "existensial" answers are a flaw of evolution. We become the rulers. And we die out. Because of faith in a higher... something....

So..

What faith, religion, is doing is making us weak. No reason. No discourse. No questions.

No questions.

Ever!

So, what I want you, theists, to understand is... Shut up! Your life (faith, thoughts) are NO more important than mine! To be honest, you had millenia... and you could not make you point... Shut up! And give us our planet back!

Welcome!

This blog will discuss theism and religion in a modern society. I hope for an open and civilized discussion, but be warned.... No special "respect" will be given just because we discuss religion.

I will also post a lot on Science in relationship to religion. So expect a lot on the Theory of Evolution, String Theory, the "Big Bang" Theory, and Abiogenesis.

Is your god big enough to be criticized?
